The Louisiana governor has threatened no LSU football this coming fall if the budget isn’t fixed.

Wait a minute … there’s a possibility that there could be no LSU Tigers football this coming season? Yes, apparently this is something that while more than likely improbable, is certainly in the cards as a possibility.

On Thursday night Louisiana governor John Bel Edwards held a speech that was televised, and during this speech he was talking about the financial crisis that the state is facing. The only way to fix this is to significantly raise taxes, which as you’d imagine doesn’t go over all that well with the residents.

Well, if you really want to get through to people in the south, you threaten their college football, and that’s exactly what Edwards did on Thursday night.

During the speech, he noted that state campuses could run out of money by April, meaning that all student-athletes would be ineligible. Then he made his point perfectly clear when he said, “That means you can saw farewell to college football next fall.”

Okay, now this is serious business. You can mess with a lot of things down south, but messing with college football is no joke.

It’s really difficult to see this happening, but it appears that the financial state of Louisiana is not in good shape, so it might not be wise to call his bluff on this.

There’s no doubt that this will be something to watch closely in the coming months.
