Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook shot down interest of playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the future.
It seems as if ever Russell Westbrook entered the NBA out of UCLA, there have been rumors tying him to eventually playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
With Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant about to hit free agency and plenty of rumors tied to him possibly leaving and going somewhere else, it’s led people to wondering if Westbrook will eventually leave as well when he is eligible for free agency.
The main destination everyone continues to tie Westbrook to is still the Lakers. Westbrook isn’t a free agent until after next season, so there’s going to be plenty of rumors of whether he’s staying in Oklahoma City or going somewhere else over the next 17 months or so.
During Saturday’s All-Star practice in Toronto, Westbrook was asked by a reporter about growing up in Los Angeles and whether or not he would have interest in playing for his favorite team growing up. According to NewsOK, Westbrook quickly shot down the reporters question and mentioned he likes it in Oklahoma City.
“Nah, I like where I am now. Oklahoma City is a great place for me.” Westbrook told the reporter. With a great deal of time until his free agency, Westbrook isn’t going to be tipping his hat and he’s too much of a professional to let on as to where his next destination might be.
He’s probably not even thinking much about it with the success the Thunder are having this season and the fact that they are one of the three 40-win teams in the Western Conference.
Should Durant choose to stay in Oklahoma City in free agency, then it would make Westbrook’s decision even easier to stay. However, that’s a ways off and the Thunder are rolling toward their goal of competing for a championship.
