Despite an earlier report, Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins have not stopped contract talks.

Earlier in the day on Tuesday a report from ESPN dropped the the Washington Redskins and starting quarterback Kirk Cousins had broken off their contract talks as the signal caller gets set to hit free agency. Well, there’s a chance that those reports might not be all that true.

According to a new report on Tuesday night from Mike Florio over at Pro Football Talk, the two sides in fact are still talking as they try to come to a new agreement. In the report Florio added that his source for this was pretty adamant about the ESPN report not being true from earlier Tuesday.

"A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the two sides have not stopped talking, contrary to an ESPN report that talks have ended."

When we learned that the contract talks might have broken off, it seemed more or less a given that they would just slap the franchise tag on Cousins, which was the most realistic option. This still might be the case, but at the same time the possibility is still in the cards that the two sides could come to a new agreement for the long haul.

2015 was finally the year where Cousins cemented himself as the definitive starter in Washington, as he played consistent enough throughout the year to help the team snag the NFC East division. With that being the case, he does hold some leverage in the talks that are talking place.

Talks that, it appears, are still going on.
