In 2016 NFL free agency, it will be interesting to see where Anquan Boldin lands.

The San Francisco 49ers are not going anywhere fast, making them a terrible team to play for as a 35-year-old. Anquan Boldin finds himself in these shoes and now as a free-agent, he has a chance to escape for one more chance at a ring. Boldin is still a productive player and keeps himself in great shape, making him attractive for many franchises.

Contract comparison

Boldin is at the end of his career, so he’s going to be hard-pressed to find a deal with more than one guaranteed season. Boldin will be trying to maximize his value by getting a nice salary in 2016, with the hopes of getting re-upped for one more season come 2017. Boldin should be hoping to get a bidding war going for his services in a wide receiver class that is middling.

As for a solid comparison on contract worth, think about Andre Johnson. The former Houston Texans great signed with the Indianapolis Colts for three years and $21 million, with $10 million coming guaranteed. Johnson was 33 when he signed that deal, so that factors into the equation.

Estimate: 2 years/$12 million/$5 million guaranteed

Will he stay?

It’s hard to see Boldin staying with San Francisco. The 49ers should be trying to get younger and Boldin should be hoping to go anywhere with a real quarterback, not Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. Boldin will likely be going for a contender while San Francisco hopes to get a nice running mate for Torrey Smith.

If he leaves…

There are a few teams that come to mind immediately. The New England Patriots have some cap space and could use a reliable receiver to replace Brandon LaFell, who is a likely candidate to be cut. Another team is the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City has $32 million in cap space and needs a weapon to go opposite of Jeremy Maclin.
