Danilo Gallinari injury update: Nuggets star out 3-4 weeks
By Nick Ziegler
Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets has been having a great season, but the injury bug has once again struck the Nuggets’ star.
In a loss to the Dallas Mavericks a few days ago, Gallinari suffered a sprained right ankle, and unfortunately, it is going to cost him an extended period of time.
Gallinari has been playing great this season for the Nuggets, as after dealing with knee issues the past few seasons, the former sixth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft has been having a career-year.
This season, Gallinari is averaging 19.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. It has been another disappointing season for the Nuggets, but the young team was certainly being lifted by the play of Gallinari, who has played some great basketball this season.
With Gallinari out, the Nuggets are going to have a hard time filling the shoes of their leading scorer, as they will now be asking more of Will Barton and Gary Harris off of the bench. Barton is the Nuggets’ main gun off of the bench, as he is averaging 15.4 points per game this season, which will likely increase if he slides into the starting lineup to replace Gallinari.
The injury to Gallinari will also result in more work for rookie Emmanuel Mudiay, who will also see his usage rate increase with the absence of Gallinari.
It is unfortunate to see Gallinari once again miss an extended period of time, as he certainly has the reputation of being an injury-prone player so far in his career.
With the Nuggets’ season ending on April 13th, there is a very good chance that we will not see Gallinari return this season with the 3-4 week window that Gallinari is out for.
