Why is the Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway called the Kobalt 400?

On Sunday, the third race of the Sprint Cup Series will take place when NASCAR invades Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 2016 Kobalt 400. The 1.5-mile track of Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been a favorite to many drivers because of the high speeds and challenges that it presents.

The main sponsor of the race of course is Kobalt. It is called the Kobalt 400, because Kobalt tools sponsors the race. Kobalt is the main tool line of Lowe’s, who also is notable for sponsoring driver Jimmie Johnson and the No. 48 car in the Sprint Cup Series.

In fitting fashion, Johnson has won the Kobalt 400 more time than any other diver in the history of the race. This week, Johnson faces some steep competition. Kurt Busch will be on the pole after winning his second straight qualifying and Kevin Harvick, the defending race winner, will be looking to pick up his first win of the season and a spot in the Chase just like last year.

One of the coolest things about the Kobalt 400 is the trophy that is given to the winner. It has the Kobalt logo and features a giant wrench on the front.
