Erin Andrews awarded $55 million in Marriott lawsuit
Erin Andrews was awarded $55 million in damages in her lawsuit after asking for $75 million
In 2008, Erin Andrews was stalked at a Marriott hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, recorded a video of her naked and it went viral online. Andrews then sued Marriott Hotels (though they were later dropped from the suit), the owner of the Marriott in Nashville, as well as Barrett, asking for $75 million on damages. On Monday, the jury ended their deliberations and awarded the reporter with $55 million in damages.
This brings some closure to what has been a trying ordeal for Andrews, as she was harassed and bullied over this unfortunate incident. Some of the damages that she suffered can’t be fixed with money, as she’ll live with those scars. However, it’s a reasonable sum of money to be awarded considering the pain that she has suffered because of it. Barrett was also sentenced to two and a half years in prison for stalking Andrews.
Why she didn’t receive the full $75 million that she asked for is unknown. The damages will be split between Barrett and West End Hotel Partners, who own the Nashville Marriott. Barrett will have to pay roughly $28 million while West End will have to pay $26 million.
It remains to be seen if Erin Andrews will see all of her settlement as it’s quite likely that Barrett will not be able to come up with his $28 million.
