NFL Trade Rumors: Cardinals shopping Calais Campbell
According to a report, the Arizona Cardinals could be shopping Pro Bowl defensive end Calais Campbell.
The NFL’s legal tampering window officially opened on Monday, as teams were allowed to begin contact with the agents of players that are set to become free agents. Teams have also began contact with each other and there have been some reported trades in the works.
According to a report from South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s Omar Kelly, former University of Miami product and current Pro Bowl defensive lineman for the Arizona Cardinals, Calais Campbell, could be on the trading block.
This is a bit of surprising news, as Campbell is one of the top defensive ends in the NFL. He was the anchor on the defensive line for an Arizona Cardinals team that made a run to the NFC Championship Game. While Campbell being on the block is big news, it may not be all that surprising.
He’s being paid a lot of money and carries a cap hit of $15.25 million this year. Add in the fact that he’s getting older and his production hasn’t really matched the money he is being paid, then it makes sense that the Cardinals could sell high on him while they can.
Over the last couple of seasons, there have been multiple occasions where head coach Bruce Arians has called out Campbell for not producing enough on the field and while Campbell has still had a huge impact, he hasn’t necessarily posted the numbers that people thought he would have.
Still, if he is available on the block, the Cardinals are going to demand a huge haul in return for him.
