San Diego State star forward Malik Pope almost brought the goal down with a putbck dunk in the Mountain West final

The San Diego State Aztecs and the Fresno State Bulldogs were going back and forth all night on Saturday in the 2016 Mountain West Conference Tournament final. However, with the outcome still highly in question for both teams, San Diego State’s star sophomore forward in Malik Pope decided to make a major statement with just one play.

Already having a double-double to his credit while leading the way for the Aztecs, Fresno State made the fatal mistake of leaving Pope untouched as a long SDSU three clanked out. Malik Pope then did what Malik Pope always does when teams are sill enough to not block him out as he took off towards the rim and threw down a gargantuan putback dunk of a Bulldogs defender, almost bringing the rim down in the process:

"MALIK POPE. WOW. https://t.co/OiABupafGb— Óscar. (@OscarPerizHoops) March 13, 2016"

The athleticism and power with Pope dunks with is just ridiculous. Throw in the fact that he’s always coupling his physical gifts with high-energy play when he’s on the floor, Pope just gets more and more impressive in regards to being a pro prospect.

Whether he’s an NBA prospect or not, though, Pope for sure just made the play of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Saturday night with that putback dunk. Let’s hope that San Deigo State finds their way into the NCAA Tournament so that March Madness can be filled with more rim-rockers from Malik Pope.
