The alleged reason that Adam LaRoche retired from the White Sox? His son wasn’t allowed in the clubhouse.

Adam LaRoche’s retirement from baseball surprised many people because he had a year left on his contract and was due over $10 million. Everyone has been wondering what prompted the Chicago White Sox designated hitter to retire so abruptly. Ken Rosenthal has the answer that everyone has been seeking.

LaRoche is a family man who is extremely close to his son. He went as far as calling his son Drake Chicago’s 26th man in an article last season. Still, it’s a bit surprising that would cause LaRoche to retire and that the White Sox would have such a silly policy. White Sox president Kenny Williams released a statement on the matter.

Note that’s something less than an outright denial, though it appears the presence of LaRoche’s son is indeed an issue.
