The Miami Hurricanes made sure that Wichita State didn’t shock them with a 65-57 victory
The Miami Hurricanes were able to win 65-57 against a Wichita State Shockers team that was determined to continue the Cinderella run in the NCAA Tournament thanks to a fast start. Miami came out storming as they built a 32-19 lead after the first half. Wichita State wouldn’t go away as they opened the second half with a 16-4 run.
The Canes were able to recoup and get a huge win over the Shockers at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
While Wichita State fought admirably and almost pulled off their second upset of the tournament, their slow start doomed them. Miami got out to a 27-6 lead in the first half that was too big of a hole for the Shockers to climb out of. The Hurricanes have some adjustments to make but they were able to hold on against a tough Wichita State to become the first team to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 in the men’s tournament.
Three Stars
1. Miami guard Angel Hernadez was the best player on the court. He had 28 points and made nine of his 11 shots from the field. Hernadez added five assists and four steals to lead his team to victory. Even with seven turnovers, Miami doesn’t win this game without Hernandez.
2. Miami guard Sheldon McClellan was the second part of the Hurricanes backcourt that led them to victory. He had 18 points, making six of his eight free throws and finished the nasty ally oop from Hernandez. McClellan added three rebounds.
3. Shockers forward Shaquille Morris had a great game in a losing effort. He had 12 points and six rebounds. Morris also added two steals and several highlight reel plays.
