No. 1 Cleveland Browns

The factory of sadness continues to turn promising quarterback careers into dust. What quickly went from the promise of excitement and spark of drafting Johnny Manziel, quickly crashed and burned into the pain of another young quarterback eaten up and destroyed in the NFL franchise that is Cleveland.

Cleveland decided to clean house this offseason, the team fired both the head coach and front office staff. Now, the team is being run by a lawyer, a former baseball executive, and the Bengals former offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.

If there was ever a NFL franchise that need a quarterback, the Cleveland Browns would be first in line at a quarterback welfare handout.

The trading of AJ McCarron to the Browns almost seems like something that was a made for TV movie. McCarron’s former offensive coordinator was hired by the worst team in football, and the two men are reconnected via a trade, in an attempt to restore glory to Cleveland.

Scheme Fit:

The Cleveland Browns will run an offense similar to last season’s Bengals. In other words, a trade for McCarron would enable him to come to the team knowing practically all of the team’s plays and terminology.

This would be critical in the development of McCarron. If he could go to a team where he was already comfortable with the plays and pass protection, then he could focus more on playing the game, and less on thinking through the game.

Team Need:

Browns fans everywhere know the struggle that their favorite franchise has had since returning to the NFL. Cleveland needs a quarterback, badly. If they can acquire one that seems even somewhat capable, then that is a solid move.

Ability for the Browns to acquire McCarron:

The Browns do not have the most talent on their team, but they do have quite a few selections in this upcoming draft. Moreover, they have enough selections that if they had to surrender a fourth round pick, or even a third round pick to trade for their franchise passer, this team should accept that trade as soon as possible.

By trading for McCarron, this will allow the team to use their second overall pick to truly select the best player on their board, and not select another quarterback that this team would more than likely destroy.
