Yoenis Cespedes made an ungraceful dive into the stands to try to catch a foul ball.

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has always been a bit dicey on defense. One thing that even his harshest critics can’t deny is that Cespedes hustles his butt off. He put that quality on display on a Wednesday afternoon game against the Miami Marlins, though it certainly wasn’t the most graceful of dives into the crowd.

Yoenis Cespedes wound up kneeing a fan in the head and appears to knock another one over in his last ditch attempt to bring in the foul ball. All parties wound up being alright despite Cespedes banging up his knee a little bit. Not quite as elegant as Derek Jeter’s infamous dive into the crowd, but then Cespedes is not as elegant as Jeter. Some fan got way more of Cespedes than they bargained for. Perhaps the Mets need to put up a warning sign for fans sitting near left field to watch out for random, soaring Cuban outfielders?

Entering Wednesday’s game against the Marlins, Cespedes has struggled slightly in his first seven games. He has one home run and three runs batted in with a batting average of .259 and a .709 OPS.
