NFL Draft Rumors: Jerry Jones wants Ezekiel Elliott at 4, recreate triplets

Jerry Jones might want Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4 in the draft and there’s a slightly valid reason

Because of their unfortunate season in 2015, the Dallas Cowboys are actually in pretty good position in the 2016 NFL Draft coming up this week. When things get kicked off this Thursday, Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys will be selecting at No. 4, which leaves a lot of options open for them.

Well, it looks like Jones knows exactly who he wants and he actually has pretty logical reasoning.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, Jones’ wish on Thursday is to select Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott at No. 4 in the draft, and he wants to do this to see if he can recreate a little history. With Elliott joining quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant, Jones seems to be of the belief that he could have another version of the triplets. In the early 90s, this group consisted of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin, as we all know.

Despite this potentially being what Jones wants to do, don’t really count on it happening. While Elliott may indeed be the best running back in this class, it’s way too much of a risk to take someone at that position that high in the order. It can be done, yes, but surely someone in that draft room will talk Jones out of it much like they talked him out of taking Johnny Manziel two years ago.

But still, it’s wildly interesting to think about Elliott joining Romo and Bryant and what that could do for the Cowboys offense.
