Steven Adams’ arm was grabbed by a fan on the sidelines on the final play in Game 2 of Thunder-Spurs

The final play in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs was one of the craziest that we’ve seen for quite some time. Between Dion Waiters pushing Manu Ginobili as the inbounder, Waiters turning the ball over, and the Spurs getting a final shot, it was all wild. However, what happened to Thunder center Steven Adams on the sideline may have been the wildest moment of the entire sequence.

As the Spurs were looking for their final shot, Manu Ginobili dished a pass over the top of his head to Patty Mills in the corner. Seeing this, Steven Adams tried to run to the corner to challenge and did a good job of that. When he tried to get up and go rejoin the play underneath the basket, though, a fan in the San Antonio home crowd appeared to grab Adams’ arm to hold him back and keep him from finishing out the final seconds of the game as part of the play:

Of course this would also happen on this play—there are probably 13 other things that happened that will continue to spill out as the hours pass.

It’s obviously hard to tell who is doing the grabbing or how hard he’s being pulled, but Steven Adams clearly is facing some kind of resistance there. For that fan, that’s truly unacceptable—but it’s really just the one thousandth wrinkle in this final sequence that just seems all too surreal.
