Is Texas trying to stop Big 12 expansion?

With Big 12 expansion now being talked about once again, is Texas trying to stop it?

It’s the college football off-season, which can mean only one thing — it’s time to talk some conference expansion! Once again, the conversation this time around involves that conference that has been at the center of controversy the last few years, the Big 12. However, the top dog in the conference might not be too pleased about what they’re hearing.

According to Jason Williams of the Cincinnati Enquirer, with the conference needing 75 percent of the vote to allow expansion to take place, the Longhorns may be influencing two of the other schools in the state to give the move an emphatic “NO!”

"Texas Tech has long fallen in line with Texas. Both are public universities that have been in the same league together since 1956, when they were in the Southwest Conference. Texas and Texas Tech were founding members of the Big 12 in 1996.TCU is believed to be following Texas’ lead because the conference’s power broker reportedly helped the Horned Frogs get into the Big 12 four years ago."

There are a number of schools being talked about for possible expansion in the Big 12, and Cincinnati is one of them. But, when it comes down to it, no one should be all that surprised that Texas might be trying to drop the hammer on this, seeing as expansion would not really do them any favors.

But, again, we’ve seen these talks before and mostly they just die down after a while, which might end up being the case here. We shall see as the summer months move on.
