Surely, there are thousands upon thousands of fans who were in attendance for the game who are upset the game was abandoned, but the police made the right call here.
The safety of the fans, stadium workers and players and coaches are the priority here, not what the final score of the game is, so after the police advised the game be abandoned, there was no other option but to walk away and ensure everyone’s safety.
You hate to see things like this happen, and hopefully, there was no ill-will with this ‘suspicious device’ found at Old Stafford, but it would appear the police on site took care of things to make sure there would not be a tragedy today.
The makeup game could be played as early as Wednesday.
