Tom Brady applying for rehearing of suspension appeal
By Jason Parker
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, as expected, is asking for a rehearing of his appeal of the four game Deflate-Gate suspension.
It’s the story that, quite frankly, is never going to go away. Whether you side with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady or NFL commissioner Roger Goodell over the whole “Deflate-Gate” matter, it just never seems as if the whole situation is going to come to an end any time soon.
As expected, Brady and his new NFLPA hired lawyer, former US Solicitor General Ted Olson, will file a motion to get a rehearing of the suspension appeal before the entire Second Circuit of the US Court of Appeals:
Tom Brady was suspended initially by Goodell for four games for his role in the deflating of game balls during the AFC Championship Game between the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts in January of 2015. New England would go on to win the Super Bowl that season, the fourth of Brady’s career.
The suspension was supposed to take place in 2015, but the appeals process allowed Brady to play the entire season. A three judge panel from the second circuit ruled to uphold the suspension late last month. Monday was the deadline for a rehearing application to be filed.
If the rehearing is granted, the suspension could be put on hold until after the case is heard…meaning Brady could see the field for the entire 2016 season.
