Baylor quarterback Seth Russell made his first comments since head coach Art Briles was fired this week.

The Baylor Bears football program has seen a mass exodus over the last week amid reports that the school failed to respond to sexual assault allegations committed by their own players.

Head coach Art Briles was fired, recruits are leaving the program and it’s clear that it’s going to take some time for the program to get everything in order. While Briles was being removed from his post, Baylor quarterback Seth Russell was on a mission trip with his teammates down in Brazil and wasn’t able to hear about the news until he got back.

Russell took to Instragram to make his comments about the situation known. His tune was a bit different than those of other members of the program that had defended Briles strongly. Russell simply tied into his religious ties and asked for prayer and healing for everyone.

Russell’s neutral comments are sort of a breath of fresh air compared to what others inside the program have said this week. Rather than making comments that could have painted him in a different light, he simply asked for healing for everyone involved.

Russell’s empathetic nature shows the reasonable character that he has.
