The New York Knicks are reportedly discussing internally how they can acquire Derrick Rose.

The NBA trade rumor season is upon us, and already we’re hearing some pretty big names kicked around the mill. Right now, perhaps the most realistic name being thrown out onto the trade waters is Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose.

Chicago seems committed to building around Jimmy Butler, despite reports this week that the Minnesota Timberwolves have discussed ways they can possibly acquire him. But it’s another Bulls player that we should be keeping an eye on, and the other geographical direction from Minnesota we should be looking.

According to Ian Begley from ESPN.com, the Knicks are reportedly discussing how they can acquire Rose.

"The Knicks have had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose, league sources tell ESPN."

Now, this doesn’t mean that a trade is on the horizon, but it’s definitely something to watch. The Knicks are in desperate need of a point guard for the future — or just one at all. Right now they’re running Jose Calderon out onto the court.

But as badly as the Knicks need Rose and as desperately as they want him, they simply don’t have the pieces to make a deal happen. Rose, while not the player he once was, is still more valuable on the  market than what the Knicks could offer for him.

There’s no chance Chicago gets Carmelo Anthony dangled to them in a deal and beyond that there’s not much the Knicks can offer. They have no picks, no talent and virtually no hope of acquiring Rose.

But hey, how is that any different than business as usual for the Knicks.
