Cavaliers fan in Utah threw his own victory parade
By Hunter Cooke
The Cleveland Cavaliers NBA title has been affecting fans all across the United States.
The city of Cleveland has endured a lot over the past decades. Before the recent Cavaliers title, the city had not enjoyed a championship since the Browns won the NFL Championship in 1964, two years before the Super Bowl existed. I mean, Cleveland has gone through so much heartbreak that the Brown’s stadium has been nicknamed “The Factory of Sadness”, which is also the name for the FanSided blog covering Cleveland sports.
All of that changed on Sunday when the Cavaliers came back from a 3-1 deficit (an NBA Finals record) to beat the Golden State Warriors, who held the best regular season record in NBA history. A lot can be said about the play of LeBron James, who brought hope to a hopeless place. The Cavalier’s celebration parade was wild. JR Smith stopped wearing shirts. There were many tears, and it looked like the entirety of Cleveland came out for the parade.
So what do you do when you’re one of the only Cavs fans to not be able to participate in the happiest victory parade in a long time? You make your own, of course.
Weston Wride of Provo, Utah organized and led his own Cavs victory parade in one of the most recent great displays of fandom. He and other Cavs fans in Provo hopped in the bed of his wine and gold colored pickup or marched alongside him to celebrate Cleveland’s greatest sports accomplishment in half a century. Weston periscoped his journey, and let me tell you, it’s a great watch.
