According to NFL Network’s Rand Getlin, Washington Redskins outside linebacker Junior tore his Achilles’ tendon and will miss the entire 2016 NFL season. This is the other Achilles’, not the same one he tore before the 2015 NFL campaign.
Galette had played his first five NFL seasons with the New Orleans Saints after being undrafted out of Temple University in 2010. He had 128 tackles, 31.5 quarterback sacks, and five forced fumbles as a crucial piece in the Saints’ defense from 2010 to 2014.
While he was a promising outside linebacker for the Saints, his football career went southward after signing a four-year contract extension with New Orleans for $41.5 million. Though he was productive in his final year in New Orleans in 2014 with 10 quarterback sacks, Galette was cut by the Saints on July 24th, 2015.
Galette would wait a week before signing a one-year deal with Washington before the start of 2015 NFL training camp. Almost a month later, Galette would tear his Achilles’ during Redskins practice and would be placed on season-ending injured reserve before August 2015 came to a close.
Not only did Galette have trouble staying on the field physically, he received a two-game suspension by the NFL for domestic violence in November 2015, stemming from an incident occurring back in January 2015.
Galette’s absence shouldn’t be a huge loss for Washington, as the Redskins look to repeat as division champions of the NFC East. Washington did just fine without Galette as a pass rusher in 2015 and will have to do the same in 2016, as Galette will not be able to play as he recovers from yet another Achilles’ tear.
