Roddy White remains available after being released by the Atlanta Falcons in March, but could he land somewhere on the verge of training camp?

After posting the lowest catch and yardage totals (43 and 506) since his rookie season last year, wide receiver Roddy White was released by the Atlanta Falcons in early March. The all-time leading receiver in Falcons’ history, with 808 receptions for 10,863 yards and 63 touchdowns over 11 seasons, remains available as NFL training camps get going this week.

White said he would either sign with a contender or retire back in June, and earlier this month he said he expects to play this season. There hasn’t been much rumored interest in the 34-year-old declining pass catcher to this point, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has reported White is in contact with a few teams.

One team with rumored interest in White earlier in the offseason was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, due to a tie with head coach (and former Falcons’ offensive coordinator) Dirk Koetter. But the Buccaneers don’t really fit White’s criteria as a contender, unless the scope is widened to dark horse playoff teams for the coming season.

The Buffalo Bills were another team mentioned as a possible landing spot for White, but it’s also a stretch to call them a contender by the strict definition. Among legitimate contending teams, the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals, Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers could still be in the market for a wide receiver.

White has to come to grips with the idea he’s no longer a No. 1 option and one of the best receivers in the NFL, rather than blame Falcons’ offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for his struggles in 2015 as he has done. But with acceptance of a certain role, and reasonable financial demands, there should be some good options for White if there’s more than token interest from teams.
