Looking at they day’s Olympics men’s basketball results for Day 2 of Rio 2016 on Sunday, August 7

One day removed from Team USA showing their absolute dominant to start Rio 2016’s competition for Olympics men’s basketball, it was time for six more teams to stake their claim as to how they can compete with USA Basketball. With many medal contenders like Croatia, Lithuania, and of course Spain taking the floor, it was still a huge day in the competition on Sunday, August 7.

Here’s a look at the results and a brief overview of the day’s action in Olympics men’s basketball:

Brazil: 76, Lithuania: 82

Lithuania absolutely dominated the host nation of Brazil for most of the game, even jumping out to a 30-point lead at one point in the third quarter. However, Brazil began to push the pace and play a little more free after that point and they benefitted greatly. With about two minutes left to play, the Brazilians somehow cut the lead to four points. Lithuania was ultimately able to survive, though, and get the opening win.

Croatia: 72, Spain: 70

The matchup on Sunday between Croatia and Spain was always supposed to be one of the best matchups of this first slate of preliminary round games and it lived up to the hype in every way. Spain had a double-digit lead at one point, but Bojan Bogdanovic and Dario Saric fought back. In the end, it was Saric that saved a two-point lead at the buzzer with a block on Pau Gasol, securing the Croatia victory.

Nigeria: 66, Argentina: 94

Though Argentina’s stars are getting much older, they still had no problem at all getting past Nigeria on Sunday as Manu Ginobili, Luis Scola, and the names you’re surely familiar with were big-time.
