Jared Goff looked really bad on his first preseason drive for the Los Angeles Rams by throwing a weak interception to the Dallas Cowboys’ defense.

Jared Goff was the franchise quarterback that the Los Angeles Rams traded up from No. 15 with the Tennessee Titans to take him No. 1 overall in this past spring’s NFL Draft. Goff was a brilliant playmaker for the California Golden Bears in their turnaround under head coach Sonny Dykes.

After taking over for presumed Rams starter Case Keenum, Goff looked foolish on his first preseason drive as a Rams quarterback. On a third and nine, Goff dropped back and didn’t feel the pressure coming right at him head-on. He was hit as he threw and the Dallas Cowboys came down with a lame duck interception at the expense of the rookie Goff.

Even the best of quarterbacks in the NFL throw bad interceptions on occasion. Sometimes they are even of the lame duck variety. However, this pick by Goff looks especially bad for two reasons:

1.) The Cowboys have one of the worst defenses in the entire NFL. Their ineptitude on that end of the field was a major reason that Dallas finished with the worst record in the NFC in 2015 at 4-12.

2.) Goff didn’t even notice the pass rusher charging at him from head-on. To throw a lame duck interception when by hit from behind is understandable, but to not feel the pressure when it’s clearly within one’s vision can’t be sitting well with Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.

Fisher and general manager Les Snead may have gotten extensions before Saturday’s preseason game with the Cowboys, but Goff couldn’t have looked worse on his first preseason possession for the Rams.
