Singer Adele recently announced that she turned down an offer to perform at Pepsi and the NFL’s 2017 Superbowl halftime show.

The 2017 Superbowl halftime show will need to find someone besides singer Adele. While performing at the Staples Center she recently let everyone know her decision when it comes to performing for the NFL’s biggest game of the year.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the star singer told the crowd at her Los Angeles concert stop recently, “First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl. I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”

While Adele is claiming she turned down an offer, the NFL and halftime show sponsor Pepsi are saying otherwise. A joint statement from them on Sunday afternoon claimed, “The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

The 2017 edition of the NFL’s big championship game will take place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Whichever act performs this year will follow in the footsteps of the 2016 acts which included a combination of rock band Coldplay and pop singers Beyonce and Bruno Mars.

Adele makes a pretty good point in that the halftime show usually tends to involve plenty of lip syncing and choreography. However, in a way she is dissing all those acts who have been considered musically talented.

There has been a good bit of controversy over the years with the acts chosen to perform, but all in all, it seems to be an honor for the musicians and a way to further their publicity. Perhaps Adele will reconsider adding her name to the list of musical stars including Beyonce, Janet Jackson and Madonna in a future edition of the big game.
