Speedo has terminated their sponsorship of Ryan Lochte.

The 2016 Rio Olympics will be defined by the crazy moments. Nobody will soon forgot the Mongolian coaches who stripped to protest a ridiculous loss. But the moment from the 2016 Olympics everyone will remember the most is Ryan Lochte lying about urinating in public and trashing a gas station. Due to that incident, Speedo has announced they have dropped Lochte’s sponsorship.

Speedo will at least make the best out of a terrible situation by donating $50,000 to a charity that helps kids in Brazil. Consider that damage control after Lochte made, or tried to make, the city of Rio de Janeiro look terrible by claiming to be the victim of a robbery.

Lochte could soon see more of his sponsors drop him. He currently has two others: Airweave and Polo Ralph Lauren. Polo is investigating the situation and could make a decision fairly soon, but Airweave has yet to release a statement on Lochte’s antics.

The simmer’s credibility could be gone forever, and rightfully so. Fabricating a robbery is bad enough. Doing it on national television is even worse. Claiming to be the victim of a robbery in order to cover up the fact you urinated in public could have dire consequences for Lochte. Dancing With The Stars reportedly wanted him to be on their next season, but the show has dropped his name from consideration due to his reputation.

This just goes to show how one little white lie can turn into a huge one. Had Lochte been honest about what happened initially, his reputation wouldn’t have taken that much of a hit. It wasn’t his actions that night that hurt him, it was the coverup.

Lochte has won 12 Olympic medals in his career, including six gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals.
