Kerry Wynn returns INT 73 yards for a TD (Video)

The annual Snoopy Bowl has been a sloppy affair between the New York Jets and Giants, but a late interception brought some excitement.
New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty has played well this preseason. Actually, he has played so well that some believe he could beat out Geno Smith for the team’s backup quarterback spot. On Saturday, he got another opportunity to show what he can do against the New York Giants in the annual Snoopy Bowl.
With the Jets nursing a 10-7 lead early in the fourth quarter, Petty had the team driving towards a score that could potentially put the game away. On a third and ten from the Giants’ 27-yard line, Petty tried to force one in under pressure. The result was not what Petty, or the Jets wanted to see.
The ball was picked off by Giants’ defensive end Kerry Wynn, who rumbled 73 yards for a Giants touchdown. The play gave the Giants a 13-10 lead, and was the obvious low point in an otherwise solid preseason for the second-year quarterback.
Rookie second-round draft pick Christian Hackenberg was inserted for Petty on the following series, as he made his first appearance of the preseason. Hackenberg is trying to earn a roster spot for the Jets, who currently have four quarterbacks. He may be a practice squad player if he cannot make the team this preseason.
Petty and Smith have been battling it out all summer, in a battle that has been closer than most thought. Smith, who was the team’s starter until Ryan Fitzpatrick finally signed right before camp, has looked shaky this preseason. He was once considered the future of the franchise, but now may not even make the team.

The New York Jets will open their 2016 season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 11 at Metlife Stadium. It remains to be seen what the depth chart will look like behind Fitzpatrick, as the Snoopy Bowl did little to rectify the situation.
