Notre Dame receiver Torii Hunter Jr likely has a concussion after suffering a helmet to helmet hit against the Texas Longhorns.

While Notre Dame receiver Torii Hunter Jr does not play the same sport as his father Torii Hunter, his dad’s athletic genes are present in his son. Hunter Jr caught an impressive touchdown pass against the Texas Longhorns. However, he also suffered a scary moment when he got hit in the helmet by DeShon Elliott.

Hunter Jr left the field on his own accord, which was good to see. However, it is likely that he will miss the remainder of the game. He could have a concussion considering how hard he got hit in the helmet.

All of this happened with his father in the stands. His mother was there as well. Hunter Jr went into the locker room and is being examined. Both his father and his mother are in the locker room visiting with their son. While Hunter got up after the hard hit, it wouldn’t be surprising if he has a concussion.

This appears to be targeting by Elliott. Hunter Jr instinctively put his helmet down but Elliott didn’t do too much to try to avoid hitting Hunter Jr in the head. No targeting penalty was called on the play but something probably should have been called.

Hunter Jr had 28 receptions last season for 365 yards, including two touchdowns. He added seven receptions for 65 yards and one touchdown in 2014. Hunter Jr is one of the Irish’s most experienced receivers so losing him for any extended period of time is detrimental to Notre Dame.

His father is a retired center fielder. He is most famous for playing for the Minnesota Twins, but he also played for the Los Angeles Angels as well as the Detroit Tigers. Hunter won multiple Gold Gloves for his defense.
