The Texas Longhorns pulled off an upset of #10 Notre Dame on Sunday night, and Twitter went crazy over it.

Sunday night was a coming out party for Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Shane Buechele. For the second time in two years, the Longhorns faced the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the first game of their season. In 2015, the Irish crushed the Longhorns, winning 38-3 at home. However, the 2016 match up was an instant classic.

Notre Dame got the party started early as DeShone Kizer hit Equanimeous St. Brown for a 13-yard touchdown during the first two minutes of the game. Texas came right back, as Buechele showed incredible touch on a 19-yard TD pass to Armanti Foreman three minutes later. The score would be tied 7-7 heading into the second quarter.

The Longhorns picked up a pair of one-yard TD runs in the second, as Buechele and Tyrone Swoopes both scored. The Irish scored a TD in between the two Texas scores, as Kizer hit St. Brown once again. The two teams headed into the half with Texas up 21-14 and smelling the upset.

After Buechele dropped a 72-yard dime to open the scoring in the third quarter, the Longhorns added a field goal, making the score 31-14. Notre Dame came roaring back, scoring 21 unanswered points. Texas retook the lead 37-35 on a D’Onta Foreman 19-yard rushing touchdown, but the PAT was blocked and Notre Dame ran it in for the 2 points to make it 37-37. Regulation ended with the score tied at 37.

The two teams traded touchdowns during the first overtime, but the second overtime would give Texas the win. Notre Dame got the ball first and had to settle for a field goal, opening the door for Swoopes to score once again for the win. Final score: Texas 50 Notre Dame 47

Once Swoopes scored the winning touchdown, Twitter exploded.
