NFL roundup: Wentz leads Eagles over Bears, Cutler exits with injury

Week 2 of the NFL season came to a close on Monday night, as Carson Wentz led the Eagles to a 29-14 victory over the Chicago Bears.

The Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to go with Carson Wentz as their starting quarterback during the preseason, as they traded incumbent starter Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.

Wentz has paid immediate dividends for the Eagles, leading the team to a 2-0 record in his first two starts. He is the fifth quarterback since the merger to start and win his first two games as a rookie. The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Chicago Bears on Monday, 29-14.

Not only did the Chicago Bears lose the game, but they also lost their starting quarterback. Jay Cutler hurt his throwing hand in the game, and had to be removed. Brian Hoyer ended up finishing the game for Chicago, going 9-for-12 with 78 yards passing. Losing Cutler would be devastating for a  team that is already 0-2 on the young season.

Adrian Peterson had to leave the Minnesota Vikings’ Sunday Night Football win against the Green Bay Packers with an injury, and on Monday it was announced that he has a torn meniscus in his knee.

He is currently going through an evaluation phase, and head coach Mike Zimmer did not rule him out of Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3. The Vikings have already lost their starting quarterback for the season, and fans will now have to hold their breath about AP.

Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Josh McCown took over for an injured Robert Griffin III for the team’s Week 2 game against the Baltimore Ravens, but now he is going to be out as well.

McCown suffered a “deep sprain” to his non-throwing shoulder, and will be out for the forseeable future. Head coach Hue Jackson said the team expects him back this season, and they will not put him on injured reserve. The team is expected to start rookie Cody Kessler in Week 3.

While one NFC East team appears to have found their franchise quarterback, another one has been left scratching their heads about the guy they though would be theirs. Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has been terrible this season, and his teammates are starting to become frustrated. Head coach Jay Gruden has stated the team has complete confidence in him, but at 0-2, the season is getting late early.
