Browns receiver Corey Coleman breaks hand in practice
The Cleveland Browns will start their third quarterback in as many games this week, and now they’ll be without one of their best pass catchers.
The Cleveland Browns are 0-2, and with Josh McCown suffering a shoulder injury last Sunday rookie Cody Kessler will make his first NFL start in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins. Multiple other injuries from last Sunday have thinned Cleveland’s roster depth. Now, the injury bug has hit rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, Coleman broke his hand in practice on Wednesday and is expected to miss a few weeks as he recovers from his injury.
Coleman was reportedly injured during Wednesday’s practice, when he caught a pass and someone came down on his hand. It’s not known which hand was injured at this point, or the severity of the injury.

Coleman was the first wide receiver taken in the 2016 draft (No. 15 overall) after a productive final two seasons at Baylor, and immediately became the Browns’ proverbial No. 1 wide receiver. He had two receptions for 69 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1, before breaking out last week with five receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns against the Baltimore Ravens.
It’s safe to assume Coleman will be out awhile, it’s just a matter of exactly how long he’ll be out. With Josh Gordon’s return from suspension still a couple of weeks away, the Browns look very thin at wide receiver. Terrelle Pryor will have to step into a bigger role, along with fellow veteran Andrew Hawkins, with rookies Rashard Higgins, Jordan Payton and Ricardo Louis likely to be counted on more.

Coleman was on track to be one of the Browns’ few bright spots this season, and now he’s out of the picture for the foreseeable future. A winless season now looks like a real possibility, but at least Cleveland sports fans can look forward to the Cavaliers’ season starting in a little over a month.
