Cleveland Browns wide receiver Corey Coleman broke his hand during Wednesday’s practice, and now we know how long he’ll be out.

The injury hits keep coming for the Cleveland Browns, with two quarterbacks and multiple others already sidelined in the midst of an 0-2 start this season. Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman suffered a broken hand during Wednesday’s practice, and it’s now known how long he’ll be sidelined.

Coleman had a breakout game in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens, with five receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Only two other wide receivers (Terrelle Pryor and Andrew Hawkins) have caught a pass for the Browns through the first two games this season, and without Coleman things look even more bleak. A cavalcade of other rookies, Rashard Higgins, Jordan Payton and Ricardo Louis, are now in line for more action while the Browns await Josh Gordon’s return from suspension in Week 5.

Rookie Cody Kessler will start under center Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, and with Josh McCown (left shoulder) banged up a few more starts are probably coming for the USC product. Cleveland’s offense probably wasn’t going to light up the scoreboard with Kessler starting, but reaching double-digit points might be a challenge over the next few games with Coleman out.

The early side of Coleman’s recovery timetable puts him in line to return in Week 7, against the Cincinnati Bengals. Week 8 against the New York Jets or Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys are the other possibilities within the appointed 4-6 weeks.

Having some injury-forced time off is obviously not ideal, but Coleman can still return and be a bright spot for the Browns this season. As the franchise heads for the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, fans can at least await Coleman’s return with some optimism.
