In his first at-bat of his first Instructional League game with the New York Mets organization, Tim Tebow powered one over the fence for a home run

There is a large portion of the community that cares about sports that Tim Tebow will always be a joke to. The fact that he’s signed with the New York Mets to a minor league deal only adds to that. After all, it’s not every day that you see a failed NFL quarterback transition to baseball. And if you do, they rarely have the fame or pedigree of Tebow.

Yet here we are. And on Wednesday, Tim Tebow made his first appearance in an Instructional League game with the Mets. Quite frankly, not many people knew what to expect from the appearance. After all, the scouting report on the former Florida Gators quarterback has been a mixed bag.

However, wonder no longer. In his first official at-bat of his pro baseball career, Tim Tebow went yard. Cue the hype train riding mercilessly out of control:

And here’s another look at the Tebow jack-job from behind the plate:

Granted, this is an Instructional League game. However, I think anyone would agree that’s more impressive of a start than imagine.

If there’s one thing that you can’t deny about Tebow, it’s his physical tools. His power is undeniable, so the fact that he’s out here cranking homers already shouldn’t be that much of a shock. However, it’ll be interesting to see if this type of hitting continues. Both in terms of pitching getting better if/when he moves up and teams getting scouting reports on him, the road won’t get any easier.
