The social media world got a taste of J.R. Smith’s frustration as he sent out a subliminal tweet directed toward the Cleveland Cavaliers.

J.R. Smith is no stranger to voicing his opinion via Twitter. Whether he’s sliding into DM’s or arguing with Pro Bowl CB Darrelle Revis, he is known to be opinionated when using his 140 characters. In his latest quarrel, he relayed a passive-aggressive, but sly message to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As the NBA season nears, Smith has yet to sign a contract. This comes just months after he assisted the Cavaliers in winning their first ever NBA title. While it seems like an obvious choice to bring back Smith, the Cavaliers are going tit-for-tat with the shooting guard during contract talks. After ongoing stalled negotiations throughout the summer, the two sides are still working to reach a deal.

In a surprise turn of events, the Cavs inked journeyman point guard Toney Douglas to a contract. Although the deal is a fraction of what Smith is asking for, he took to Twitter to express his opinion.

Regardless of his peculiar behavior, the Cavaliers need to pay Smith what he is asking for. As a vital cog on a championship team, he has every right to be upset about not getting a deal that’s worth signing.

The Cavs are all too familiar with this situation, as they faced a similar ordeal with Tristan Thompson. After LeBron James applied the pressure to sign their rebounding menace the issue was resolved. In Smith’s case, he may need the King to continue to speak up on his behalf if he hopes to follow Thompson’s tracks to NBA riches.

If the Cavs continue their snide ways, reactions via Twitter will continue to surface as Smith becomes agitated about his ongoing contract squabble with the defending NBA champions.
