LeBron James entered the NBA in 2003 straight out of high school. Now the superstar has announced where he plans on attending college.
After earning just about every away he can in his basketball career, LeBron James says he will pursue earning his college degree. James told Ohio.com that during his free time he hopes to pursue a college diploma and where it will be from.
“I’m signed up at the University of Akron for whenever I’m able to get a little bit of down time,” James said. “That’s always been a conversation that took place — to take some college courses, take some classes. So right now I just do a lot of reading, book reading, and obviously I’m around some really good people that I kind of take their knowledge and sort it into my mind.”
The four-time MVP award winner has had one of the greatest careers in NBA history, but he never went to college. As he continues his career, it looks as though he has outside interests such as world history.
“I love world history, just the history of how everything was put together. I love that part of things, and people that founded the world, made this world such a beautiful place. I’m pretty fond of that,” James said. “I love when I go around, obviously every summer traveling places, and it’s kind of unique to see how we kind of built things. Who kind of ruled places at certain points of time. It’s pretty cool.”
James has also previously shown an interest in education. Off the court, he has established the “I PROMISE” initiative that rewards kids from Akron with full scholarships so long as the complete the program and satisfy other requirements.
