The long journey of Beyond Good & Evil 2

The creator behind Beyond Good & Evil and the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil 2, Michel Ancel, tells everyone why the sequel has taken so long to make.

Back in 2003, Beyond Good & Evil was released by developer Ubisoft, and although it was met with positive reviews, it was a commercial failure because nobody really knew about it. If you’re unfamiliar with this game, then you should do your very best to try and play it. It’s a hidden gem and is one of the most under-appreciated games of all time.

Beyond Good & Evil blends a variety of different play styles. It’s said to be an action-adventure game, but there’s much more to it than that. Not only do you explore an interesting world full of interesting characters, but you can race around in customizable vehicles, you can fly, you can photograph different creatures and take pictures of other objects that may aid you in your quest, and the combat is also very unique. The game is very versatile, and it succeeds in every way.

A sequel was in the works a few years back, but it never came to fruition. We never really knew why, and Beyond Good & Evil 2 ended up in limbo. But thanks to creator Michel Ancel, who has already teased the new game and has confirmed the sequel is in pre-production on a number of occasions, we’ll finally be getting this new game soon enough.

On Wednesday, he released a statement on Instagram, explaining why it’s taken so long to work on this game and why now is the perfect time to develop it.

In his statement, he says that he had many plans for the first game, but due to limitations in that era, they opted to keep it simpler. The funny thing is Beyond Good & Evil, even today, holds up very well. The graphics aren’t bad, the combat is very smooth along with every other aspect of gameplay, and the world is a lot of fun to explore.

When you consider all of these factors, we can’t imagine what Ancel and the rest of the team have in store for the sequel.
