Premier League table update: Arsenal take the lead
Arsenal weren’t great against Middlesbrough Saturday, but their point was enough to give them the lead in the Premier League table.
Arsenal have been in dominant form lately, winning six in a row in the league after only one point in their first two games. That run came to an end Saturday with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough. Still, the point was enough to send the Gunners into first place in the table.
Middlesbrough, meanwhile, will remain just above the drop zone in 17th with a point. They move above Hull, but both teams were overtaken by Stoke, who enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win against the Tigers.
In the early kickoff, Tottenham were held to a 0-0 draw away at Bournemouth, the first time they’ve failed to scored all season. The point moved them up to third, but depending on the results of Liverpool vs. West Brom and Chelsea vs. Manchester United, Spurs could end the weekend in fifth place.
Here’s the full Premier League table after seven Saturday games:
Hull and Everton were the big losers on the day. The Tigers’ loss to Stoke moved them into the relegation zone in 18th place. That was to be expected at the beginning of the season, but after a strong start to the campaign, it seems they’d been underestimated.
Everton lost to Burnley thanks to a last minute Scott Arfield strike. After going unbeaten in their first five games of the season, Ronald Koeman’s side are now winless in four matches. With Southampton improving quickly, it seems the Toffees will have real fight on their hands to qualify for the Europa League next season.

Sunderland’s woes continue as well, as the Black Cats fell victim to another late strike, this time from West Ham’s Winston Reid. David Moyes remains under serious pressure as his side stay rooted to the bottom of the table with only two points from nine games.
