Who plays in the MAC Championship Game on Dec. 2 at Ford Field?

For the first time since the 2000 MAC Championship Game, the Western Michigan Broncos will be playing for the MAC’s biggest prize.

Their opponent will be the Ohio Bobcats, who will be making their first appearance in the title game since 2011, when they lost 23-20 to Northern Illinois at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Bobcats tied with the Miami (OH) Redhawks at the top of the MAC’s East Division at 6-2 in the conference, but Ohio holds the tiebreak by virtue of a 17-7 victory over the Redhawks this season.

As for the Broncos, they haven’t done much other than run the table with a perfect 8-0 mark and a unblemished 12-0 regular season entering the title game on Dec. 2. It’s safe to say the boat has been rowed by P.J. Fleck’s bunch.

Fleck has become one of the hottest head coaches in the nation, and his name has been floated around in terms of some bigger openings across the country. The Texas and LSU jobs are taken, but there still could be some jobs on the board for Fleck if he wants them.

He’s building Western Michigan into a great program in the MAC and may not be quite ready for a bigger role, but the opportunity could be there.

The Broncos will likely head into the title game as the heavy favorite, but the Bobcats have won four of their last five entering the biggest game of the year for the MAC.
