Baylor women’s basketball sets record with 108 point margin of victory
With a 140-32 win over Winthrop, Baylor’s women’s basketball team set a record for largest margin of victory by a women’s team.
The Baylor Bears are one of the most impressive women’s basketball teams in recent history. They have accomplished a variety of things only a select few teams have. Now they can add several national records to their resume following a 140-32 win over Winthrop.
“We could have beaten a lot of teams today. We were just clicking on all cylinders,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said, via the Waco Tribune. “As I tell them during the game, I’m not looking at the score. I am looking at your defense, I am looking at turnovers, I am looking at your execution of things.”
With the win, the Bears set the national college record for largest margin of victory. Previously, the women’s record was held by Louisiana Tech, who beat Texas-Pan American 126-25 in 1989. The Bears’ 108 point margin of victory beats the previous 102 point college record set by Grambling in a 139-37 win over Jarvis Christian in 1986.
Also, the Bears set several school records. They beat their own record for largest margin of victory. Not only that, the Bears set records for field goals (58), rebounds (75), assists (42), and blocks (17). Their 140 points are the most in school history, beating their previous record of 130 in an overtime loss and their regulation record of 129.

Three players scored over 20 points, with Khadijah Cave leading the way with 25 points. Lauren Cox and Alexis Prince each added 23 points. Two other Bears got 10 points. The scary thing is, it could have been far worse because they didn’t even use their top scorer Alexis Jones. She’s not playing in any games until the Big 12 opener due to knee issues.
Winthrop does have a slight moral victory. They had a higher free throw percentage than the Bears.
