As the list of schools attached to the ‘WakeyLeaks’ scandal grows, Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson has reacted.

Game plan information being leaked to Wake Forest football opponents, initially surfaced as a possibility around their game against Louisville in November. Now head coach Dave Clawson, during an appearance on ESPN Radio’s Mike and Mike In The Morning on Friday, has explained the details about what they saw and the game plan change that followed when some things were discovered at Papa John’s Stadium before that game.

The investigation Clawson alluded to, as we now know, showed former Wake Forest coach and radio announcer Tommy Elrod at least attempted to provide confidential game plan information to opponents over the last three seasons. Virginia Tech has acknowledged one of their former assistants received such information, and Army has been contacted as part of Wake Forest’s internal investigation.

Clawson also conveyed the initial concern he had about Elrod being hired to do Demon Deacons’ radio broadcasts, after being an assistant coach under former Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe for 11 seasons.

"“I remember when he was first hired to do our radio broadcasts. I talked to his partner and said, ‘Do you think this is really a good move to hire somebody in this position that was just let go?'” Clawson said. “And [he] was almost incredulous, like, ‘Are you kidding me? This guy loves Wake Forest and would do anything for Wake Forest.’ So we embraced him. We allowed him to have access to all of our practices, our press conferences.”"

Based partially on his decision not to keep Elrod on his (at the time) new coaching staff at Wake Forest, Clawson’s instincts proved to be right. This story is probably not over, as other schools who were contacted by Elrod with confidential game plan information continue to come out.
