Gabriel Landeskog is drawing interest from the Boston Bruins

The Colorado Avalanche are officially open for business. Their clients will include a number of contenders, while their trade block features some very intriguing names. One of those players is captain Gabriel Landeskog. According to Bleacher Report’s Adrian Dater, the Boston Bruins and Avalanche are having discussions about the star forward.

This hypothetical trade will likely involve a prospect and a first round pick. The Bruins have no shortage of tempting prospects, including Jake DeBrusk, defenseman Jakub Zboril and forward Zachary Senyshyn. Each of them were picked in the 2015 NHL Draft by Boston. Ryan Spooner could also be involved since he is a proven player as opposed to a prospect like the others. Regardless of who’s involved, a first round pick would likely be heading to Colorado.

Boston would like to win a second Stanley Cup before Zdeno Chara retires. They don’t have much time either. Considering their recent actions, it wouldn’t be surprising if they bite the bullet and pay a hefty price for Landeskog. The Bruins did, after all, give David Backes a huge deal this offseason. That’s very much a “win now” move.

Before Connor McDavid became the captain of the Edmonton Oilers, Landeskog had the distinction of being the youngest captain in NHL history. In 28 games this season, the Avalanche forward has six goals and 12 points. However, his career numbers are much more promising. In 384 games, Landeskog has 106 goals and 152 assists for 258 points. He’s a two-way forward, arguably the best the Avalanche have — though admittedly, this isn’t too much of a compliment.

Landeskog could thrive with the Bruins. He wouldn’t have to be the number one star there, as David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand would help ease the burden. Landeskog also fits in with how the Bruins play and he has a team friendly contract.
