The final season of The Vampire Diaries continues on Friday night with episode 14, titled “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride.” Here are the details on how to watch online.

This week on The Vampire Diaries, the Salvatore brothers prepare to finally face off against Cade. A daunting enough task without an ominous title: “It’s Been a Hell of a Ride.”

Like all titles for this final season, it is a callback to a quote from the first season, specifically episode 20, “Blood Brothers.” In that episode, Elena learns the story of how Damon and Stefan became vampires. But the reason why Stefan is suddenly in a sharing mood is what makes it worrisome that a quote from this episode is being used now.

Stefan is locked in the Salvatore basement coming down from what would be the first of many blood binges. Similar to human Stefan of the past couple season 8 episodes, he is full of guilt over his past actions. This time, for his role in turning Damon into a vampire.

To pay for his role in turning his brother into a vampire, Stefan wants to do what he should have done way back in 1864: die. He plans on removing his daylight ring and burning in the sun.

Flash forward to season 8, and the Salvatore brothers both have a high chance of not surviving a confrontation with Cade. Luckily, they will have Bonnie and her new psychic powers to help them. But still, they are in a fight with the literal devil, so the odds are not good.

Along with Bonnie helping them is the fact that there are still two more episodes of The Vampire Diaries before the finale. And seeing as both Salvatore brothers appear in the latest series finale teaser, it is likely they both make it through episode 14.
