NFL Rumors: 49ers may make trade offer for Trevor Siemian
As the Denver Broncos seem to set their sights on another quarterback, Trevor Siemian may find a new team quickly.
Once Tony Romo becomes available, the Denver Broncos will be at the top of the list of landing spots for him. General manager John Elway and head coach Vance Joseph have said a lot by saying very little, beyond acknowledging an open competition for the starting job between Trevor Siemian and 2016 first round pick Paxton Lynch.
Mike Klis of 9News in Denver has reported the Broncos are ready to pursue Romo, if and when he is released by the Cowboys. That’s nothing new really, with the Broncos being heavily tied to Romo and previous indications they may be his preferred destination.
But Klis added a new layer, regarding one of the quarterbacks currently on the Broncos’ depth chart:
"“If the Broncos were to acquire Romo, Elway figures to almost instantly receive trade requests for Siemian, starting with the San Francisco 49ers. New 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan communicated during his head coach interview with the Broncos he was impressed with Siemian, who is scheduled to make a ridiculously affordable $615,000 this season and $705,000 in 2018 as part of his rookie contract.”"
The San Francisco 49ers seem to be attached to virtually every available quarterback to some degree, as general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan keep all their options open. The anecdote about Shanahan telling the Broncos he was impressed with Siemian is interesting though, and adds teeth to a potential trade offer.
Siemian started 14 games last season, throwing for 3,401 yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 59.5 percent of his passes. He is recovering from surgery on his non-throwing shoulder, but he’s fully expected to be ready for OTAs.

Lynch is in place as Denver’s potential quarterback of the future, and signing Romo is obviously a move that would be made with another Super Bowl run in mind next season. That would leave Siemian as the odd-man out, but the 49ers seem ready to join the Buffalo Bills on the list of teams with possible interest in the Northwestern product.
