The Denver Broncos failed to reach the playoffs last season after winning the Super Bowl in 2015. And John Elway is looking for some help when it comes to his backfield.

As we know, the Chargers of San Diego are now the Bolts of Los Angeles. The franchise made a lot of news on Tuesday with the releases of wide receiver Stevie Johnson, offensive lineman D.J. Fluker and cornerback Brandon Flowers.

On the other hand, Denver Broncos general manager John Elway has never been shy when it comes to adding talent from other teams. The franchise has been one of the busier teams in the league during free agency in recent years and it’s paid off for the most part.

Now it appears that the Broncos are interested in taking someone else off their AFC West rival’s roster. It’s interesting to note that former Chargers’ head coach Mike McCoyis now back in the Mile High City, once again as offensive coordinator. Now according to SiriusXM NFL Radio and Sporting News columnist Alex Marvez, Elway and the organization has eyes for Bolts’ versatile running back Danny Woodhead.

He has spent the past four seasons with the Chargers. But injuries have limited him in two of the past three seasons. Woodhead missed 13 games in 2014 and the final 14 contests this past year. When healthy, he’s a solid threat as a runner and a pass-catcher.

You will recall that one of the Denver’s biggest downfalls in 2016 was not only the failure to stop the run but the ability to maintain a consistent ground attack of its own. The Broncos ranked 28th in the league in rushing defense. But only five teams in the NFL ran for fewer yards than the defending Super Bowl champions this past season. And adding Woodhead to a backfield that already includes C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker would add some much-needed depth.
