T.J. Lang reportedly signs three-year deal with Lions
T.J. Lang is switching teams in the NFC North, as he will reportedly sign with the Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions have gone out of their way to upgrade their offensive line during the 2017 NFL offseason. On the first day of free agency, they locked up tackle Rick Wagner, making him the highest paid right tackle in the NFL. Now the Lions are reportedly signing a former divisional foe, as they’ve agreed to terms with free agent guard T.J. Lang.
Lang spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Green Bay Packers. He has experience on both sides of the line and at guard and tackle. However, most of Lang’s recent experience has come at right guard, though he has filled in at left guard. Detroit saw Matthew Stafford get hit a few too many times last season and saw their rushing attack struggle. Lang should help with the latter while Wagner should help out more with the former.
He was named a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career in 2016 after helping lead the Green Bay Packers to the NFC Championship. In Detroit, he will likely stick at right guard. Lang has proven to be quite durable, starting 92 of a possible 119 games played. He’s been a full-time starter since his third year in the league after serving as a backup for his first two seasons.

Lang should be a quality addition to the Lions. They take a huge piece from the Packers, which is always a good thing. Moreover, their offensive line looks much better going into the 2017 season than it did at the end of the 2016 season. Lang should help improve one of the NFL’s worst rushing offenses last season, as he’s one of the NFL’s premier run blockers.
