Green Bay Packers bring back cornerback Davon House
After a bad ending with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Davon House is coming back to the Green Bay Packers.
Davon House left the Green Bay Packers for the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency two years ago. After a solid first season there in 2015 (four interceptions, 60 tackles, 23 pass breakups), House was benched for the majority of the 2016 season fairly and it was inevitable he would be cut halfway through his four-year deal.
Almost immediately, rumors tying House to the Packers emerged when he was cut by Jacksonville. But nothing came after that, and he took a visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday morning. The Steelers must not have made an offer very quickly, though, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported a one-year, $3.5 million deal reached with the Packers while House was in Pittsburgh.
Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported thone-yearar deal between House and the Packers.
House spent his first four NFL seasons with the Packers, after being drafted in the fourth round out of New Mexico State in 2011. He played in 29 games over final two seasons with the team (all 16 in 2013), with nine starts over that span. The release of Sam Shields further opens up a starting opportunity for House now, as Green Bay’s 31st-ranked pass defense from 2016 clearly needs all the help it can get.

The young cornerback trio of Damarious Randall, LaDarius Gunter and Quinten Rollins got exposed consistently last season, particularly in Green Bay’s last two playoff games against the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons. House adds some much-needed depth and a theoretical veteran presence. After taking the money and running to Jacksonville, a reunion with the Packers was an obvious fit for House this time around.
