Marshawn Lynch seems set to make an NFL comeback, but his agent has suggested otherwise.

A match of the Oakland Raiders and retired running back Marshawn Lynch has seemed likely for a  few days, barring the Seattle Seahawks throwing a wrench in the process. Lynch dropped a hint about a return on Twitter over the weekend, but until he files the required paperwork with the league office nothing can be assumed.

Lynch’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, appeared on KNBR radio Monday alongside NFL draft prospect client Davis Webb. While acknowledging Lynch “misses football,” Hendrickson’s words perfectly reflected the ongoing doubt about the situation.

"“I’m due to see him this week. So he and I have not spoken about this at all. So it was the media who took the ball and kind ran with it. He’s one of the most unique guys I’ve ever been with in my life. Marshawn, it wouldn’t shock me in three days if he says, ‘Hey, I want to play.’ It wouldn’t shock me if he says, ‘Nah, I don’t know where this came from. I don’t want to play.’ He doesn’t spend any of the money he’s made. He’s got a lot of money. He does miss football, no question. He loves the game of football. He’s 30. But until I meet with him this week, you know, I don’t know what his mindset is. He’s the kind of guy that can shift by the hour.”"

Hendrickson speaking to Lynch simply blowing off any interest in playing again, or being the type to “shift by the hour” is not surprising. The Seahawks hold his rights, and thus all the cards right now, but it would be a total Lynch move to file for reinstatement and then still fluctuate on wanting to play or not.

The Raiders surely want a resolution to the situation with Lynch soon, so their 2017 plan at running back can take full shape with or without him. But until reinstatement papers have been filed, or not via Hendrickson’s likely public confirmation, any news about Lynch’s plans is a short-term proposition.
