Buccaneers RB Doug Martin involved in car accident
As he attempts to turn his career around, Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin was involved in a car accident Thursday afternoon.
Outside of a nice rookie season in 2012 (1,454 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns), and a similarly productive 2015 campaign (1,402 rushing yards; second in the league), Doug Martin’s career has been unimpressive and injury-riddled.
Now with three more games to serve on a performance-enhancing drug suspension at the start of the 2017 season, Martin’s ability to even hold a roster spot with the Tampa Buccaneers was a question.

But all indications are Martin has looked good thus far in offseason work, with a report saying he was the most impressive player early on backed up by praise from Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht.
So Thursday’s news that Martin was involved in a car accident is a bad break to say the least.
Martin is not at fault in the incident, as he was not even cited and no alcohol or drugs were found. Another vehicle ran a stop sign, hit his car and eventually collided with a periodontist’s office. More relatively good news has come from Licht and Martin himself.
Martin has to replace a vehicle now, but otherwise he appears to be no worse for the wear with only minor cuts and bruises. He’ll need to be fully healthy going forward, as he competes for time in a deep Tampa Bay backfield that includes Charles Sims, Jacquizz Rodgers and now rookie Jeremy McNichols.
