Kansas transfer Carlton Bragg commits to Arizona State
After a disappointing stint a Kansas, Carlton Bragg is set for a fresh start at Arizona State.
Carlton Bragg arrived at Kansas as a top-25 recruit in the ESPN 100 for the 2015 class. But he barely played as a freshman, averaging 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game over just 8.9 minutes per contest, and things were not substantially better during his sophomore season.
Bragg was suspended twice last season, for four games total, for off-court legal issues. Add that to a lack of production (5.2 points and 4.1 rebounds over 13.8 minutes per game), and it wasn’t too surprising when it was announced a month ago that Bragg would transfer from Kansas.
According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, after also considering lllinois, Bragg has committed to Arizona State. After sitting out the 2017-18 season, Bragg will be able to take the floor for Sun Devils coach Bobby Hurley with two years of eligibility left.
Bragg visited the Arizona State campus earlier this week, and he made a fairly quick decision that it was the best fit for him.
"“I felt like it was the best fit for me – in the Pac-12,” Bragg told ESPN. “Their style of play fits my style, getting up and down the court. I talked to everyone close to me and they felt it was the best fit for me.”"
The Sun Devils have a 30-35 record (12-24 in conference play) over Hurley’s two seasons as head coach, with a losing record in both campaigns, and they have not made the NCAA Tournament since the 2013-14 season under Herb Sendek.

A tough Pac-12 makes a significant climb up the standings a hard bargain. But if Bragg can reach his potential, he should help reinvigorate the Arizona State men’s basketball program. This could be a very positive move for the player after a bad couple years in Kansas.
